Types of materials for finishing

Today, there are several options for decorating ceilings:

  • painting or whitewashing after plastering;
  • slabs on the ceiling are an inexpensive and fast way to give it a noble look;
  • ceilings give the kitchen a refined style (it is possible to wipe them if necessary);
  • the use of gypsum suspended ceiling gives you the opportunity to turn fantasy wide;
  • The combination of several materials, different in texture and color, makes it possible to translate into reality virtually any modern ideas.

These options can be considered traditional methods of finishing the ceiling, which are often used before. They had particular popularity about 15-20 years ago, and now they are used less and less, as they are considered to be quite complex and dirty.

Before painting, perfect surface leveling should be performed. To do this, use the usual putty, which primed all the visible flaws on the ceiling. Painting usually begins with the eaves and the corners, and then move to a common central area.

Most often used tiles made of foam, various types of plastic, less often you can find options made of wood or glass. On the front side there is often some kind of drawing or metal spraying, and sometimes the tiles may look as if you are dealing with a wooden ceiling.

Panels on the ceiling

Practical and fast kitchen ceilings are mounted from plastic panels. This method is convenient because it does not require time-consuming work on the alignment of surfaces. First, the frame is assembled from a metal profile, and then the panels are assembled, somewhat resembling the assembly of a children's designer. Such ceilings require installation over the entire area of the corners of plastic, into which the panels are connected, connected with the help of special side grooves.

Plastic ceilings have their advantages: ease of installation, resistance to temperature changes, low prices, ease of maintenance; but there is also a small drawback: they easily lose their original shape even from small pressings, therefore, installation work must be carried out extremely carefully.

Stretch ceiling

Stretch ceilings have long been proven exclusively from the best side. They have many undeniable advantages:

  • perfectly smooth surfaces without the need for any leveling;
  • the resistance of the material to water and steam exposure;
  • The material is aesthetically very attractive, and, moreover, durable.

There are several types of such ceilings: matte and glossy, with seams and without seams. Shades and colors can be made almost any. The height of the ceilings when using the metal frame is reduced by 10 cm, so stretch ceilings are ideal for kitchens with high ceilings.

This is one of the most popular types of ceiling frame structures, which are fixed on the concrete ceiling. They have several indisputable advantages: the relative ease of installation, resistance to steam or moisture. Suspended design makes it easy to hide wiring or pipes, panels with spotlights.

Combined ceilings involve the mixing of different materials. Most often you can find stretch ceilings using gypsum boards. Less common is a drywall connection with decorative plaster. Creating multi-level combined ceilings requires high skill. Most often, whole teams of masters work on them.
