Plywood is a fairly common material currently used for the manufacture of furniture, partitions, as well as for flooring. The popularity of plywood is not difficult to explain: it is environmentally safe, durable, has an attractive price. Plywood when processing does not require much effort. In addition, plywood products have an attractive appearance, especially if it is painted. That's exactly how to paint the plywood, we will talk in this article.
Before painting plywood, it is necessary to prepare its surface well. If you have just purchased sheets of plywood, you need to give them a certain time to dry, because it is unknown under what conditions the plywood was stored. In order for the sheets to dry well, it is enough for them to stay in a room with a dry warm climate.
So the plywood sheets are dry. Now they need to be well polished and clean the surface from slivers and dust. For best results, it is recommended to carry out grinding in two stages. First, the surface is treated with a large abrasive sandpaper (grain size No. 80). Then carefully we clean with an emery paper with an average grain size (No. 100-120).
For painting plywood you need any of the following tools:
- paint brush;
Which of the listed tools to use depends on the type and area of the painted surface. Roller is better to use for painting smooth surfaces of medium size (wardrobe, wardrobe). It is desirable that the roller was foam. In this case, it is inconvenient to use a fur roller for painting - after it there is a pile on the surface. The brush is an indispensable tool for painting the ends, corners, and various shaped elements. Well, the sprayer will save time well when painting large flat areas, such as the floor.
As for the type of paint, here it is necessary to pay attention to the following factors:
- conditions in which the plywood product will be located;
- class of the painted material;
- the purpose of painting.
If painted plywood will be located outdoors or in a room with high humidity, it is recommended to use acrylic paint. The coloring layer is applied in two layers. At the same time, both sides of the sheet are processed, as well as the ends.
If phenol-formaldehyde glue was used in the manufacture of plywood, then facade paint is required here. This paint is also used for dyeing wood. Plywood, which is used for making furniture, is treated with water-based paint. This paint has several advantages:
- dries quickly;
- no unpleasant smell;
- high-quality grip.
The purpose of painting means the appearance of the surface. That is, whether it is necessary to emphasize the beauty of the painted surface, or such a task is not posed.
Now you can start the main work - to painting. It is desirable to paint plywood sheets in the longitudinal direction, along the wood fibers. The coloring layer should be applied evenly. The layer must be thin. If the paint is applied with a thick layer, it is fraught with the formation of smudges, which will lead to a deterioration of the appearance of the surface. In addition, the application of a thin layer contributes to a better saturation of the paint color. On the painted layer is recommended to apply the second. Before applying the second layer, you must wait a certain time so that the first layer is completely dry.
