The times when stucco decorated only the ceilings in very expensive homes, are long gone. Today, it can be seen in office rooms and ordinary apartments. This is explained by the fact that cheaper materials have appeared that allow the ceiling to be decorated with stucco, even for people with low incomes.
A few centuries ago, ceilings were decorated with stucco made of stone or expensive mortar. Today you can decorate the ceiling with stucco:
Before buying a particular type of stucco, you need to familiarize yourself with the advantages and disadvantages of each of them. Look not only at the appearance of stucco - analyze its properties. Learn, for example, how a particular material behaves at low temperatures. Suddenly, the heating system in your house will break down and for a few days the rooms will not be heated. It is necessary to take into account any force majeure.
Polyurethane stucco is very beautiful, because it looks like a real stone. It is lightweight and at the same time durable. If you buy such a stucco, it does not need to be painted - it already looks very presentable.
In this case, the polyurethane is a good paint, ideally even layer. It is very convenient to work with polyurethane moldings. This material does not crumble and does not break, and no cracks go on it due to small blows. If you want to make a really beautiful ceiling in an apartment, select some elements with gold or copper paint. Then the interior will look even richer.
The big advantage of this material is its high resistance to temperature extremes. He is not afraid of high humidity and severe frost, so you can decorate the facade of the building with decorative elements of polyurethane. Just imagine how much it would cost to decorate the outside of the house with expensive stone stucco.
Polyurethane fretwork is not afraid of rising temperatures. The material melts at +300 degrees, so these decorative elements can be mounted under the chandelier and lamps - they will not burn and melt even after prolonged use. Decorative elements of polyurethane do not change color even with prolonged exposure to the sun's best and are not afraid of moisture, so they can be washed.
The interior and the house, and the apartment looks good and plaster moldings on the ceiling. This material has many flaws, but there are significant advantages. Gypsum is natural, which means it is absolutely safe material. It does not emit any harmful substances, has no smell, is absolutely hypoallergenic. Gypsum does not burn and does not melt, so the decorative elements made from it can be placed under a chandelier for a lot of light bulbs. Another gypsum has such an important property as hygroscopicity. If the room is too humid, it takes away excess moisture, and when the air is too dry, it gives off.
Stucco molding on the ceiling looks really rich and fits into any interior. She is decorated with ceilings in the premises in the style of Provence, Art Nouveau, Baroque. Gypsum is a very plastic material; absolutely any sculptures can be created from it, including ceiling moldings. If the stores did not find anything suitable, you can make an individual order for the production of exactly the stucco that will fit perfectly into the interior. It is expensive, but very original.
Gypsum is a very fragile material. If during the work you drop some element, then cracks will go over it or it will shatter into smithereens. Hygroscopicity is also a serious disadvantage.
At high humidity, the plaster does not dry out and may eventually begin to crumble, so the ceiling is not decorated with stucco moldings in a bathroom, a room with a pool, a bath, or an outside. If you still want to decorate the interior with gypsum stucco, then it should be treated with a special solution. Gypsum is a very expensive material, and the design of ceilings with plaster moldings can be very expensive - not everyone can afford such a royal decor.
For the design of modern interiors is actively used polystyrene or foam. It is quite flexible, very light and cheaper than plaster and polyurethane several times. Stucco made of polystyrene is not afraid of changes in temperature and high humidity. It is very easy to work with it: it is quickly mounted, due to its low weight and special material structure. This material serves for a very long time. With proper operation, the design of the ceilings with stucco foam will please you for many years.
With a huge number of advantages, polystyrene is flammable. Such stucco is afraid of fire, so it is not located near the lamps and under the chandelier on the ceiling. It also costs much less than plaster or polyurethane, but it also looks not so presentable. It can be seen that the stucco is made not from expensive material, but from ordinary foam. To improve the appearance, it can be painted with the color of the ceiling or walls. Then the interior will become even more beautiful and interesting, and the ceiling will be similar to the ceilings in palaces and rich estates.
How do stucco?
It is not enough to choose an expensive stucco, one must also not be mistaken with the purchase of the compound on which it will be attached to the ceiling. There is no need to save. It is best to buy stucco and adhesive composition of one manufacturer. If not found, ask the sellers to advise you and select the appropriate option.
For fixing stucco made of polystyrene and polyurethane use "liquid nails", putty or other modern adhesive solutions. Before you attach it, you need to align, clean and dry the walls. It is mounted only on perfectly flat and absolutely clean surfaces.
For plaster stucco need a solution that can withstand the weight of very heavy elements. Obviously, gypsum weighs much more foam, so the "liquid nails" for its attachment will not work. Before attaching the plaster stucco, the surface is treated with a solution of PVA glue and gypsum. Sometimes it is mounted on dowels, but this work must be done at least two or three.
Today stretch ceilings with stucco molding are rather popular. They do not cost so much, but significantly transform the interior. Only gypsum cannot be fastened to ceilings - light finishing materials should be used, preferably polystyrene.
In order to visually raise the ceiling and draw the border between them with walls, you can attach a narrow eaves (ceiling plinth) of foam. The tensioning fabric is very soft, therefore the decorative elements need not be fixed to it, but to the wall. The work is jeweler, but if you do it carefully, the ceiling will look different.
And the stretch ceiling can be decorated with light rosettes of foam. So that it looks good and held, the socket should not occupy more than a quarter of the ceiling and exceed 80 cm in diameter.
